In my recent attendance at the EOS(Entrepreneur Operating System) Conference, there were many discussions about leadership. What qualities do good leaders have and what are important things to keep in mind to help you to be a good leader. Here are some of the things that I learned:
The 5 Qualities of a Successful Leader:
- Strategic thinker
- Organized, value planning, prioritize/anticipate
- Process oriented
- People oriented/team player
- Strong communicator
Here are some additional things to think about to be a successful leader:
- Leaders need to look inside their selves and determine what work they need to do rather than looking externally for solutions to problems.
- Everyone in your organization needs to be a leader.
- Be open, curious, and committed to learning.
- Do not be closed, defensive, have the need to be right.
- What does it look like when you’re above the line (functioning well, being productive, producing good work, motivated, etc) vs. below the line (poor communication, not quality work, lack of motivation, etc.)?
- As a team, are we above or below the line?
- How/when do you know that you are below the line? Awareness!!!!!! Avoid “autopilot”.
- What causes you to dip below the line (triggers)?
- How do you get back above the line?
- Be open to hearing your colleagues comments/concerns and try to work it out and clear up misunderstandings/miscommunications.
- Do not make false assumptions about another colleague or employee. If possible, try to talk to them directly to resolve the issue.
